PROF. LESZEK KOLANKIEWICZ
On 11 February 2025, the Polish theatre theorist, critic, theatre anthropologist, cultural studies scholar and university teacher Leszek Kolankiewicz will receive the Gold Medal of the Academy of Performing Arts for his lifelong contribution to research on the phenomenon of theatre. The awarding of the AMU Gold Medal and the subsequent discussion will take place during NADAMU's annual festival.
Leszek Kolankiewicz is one of the most important Polish theatre theorists and anthropologists. He has worked at the University of Warsaw, the Theatre Academy in Warsaw and the University of Paris IV Sorbonne. His work, which examines the theatre of J. Grotowski and his followers in a broad, cultural studies approach, has won numerous awards in Poland and abroad.
His analytical texts have been translated into English, French and Italian. Czech translations of his studies have appeared in the pages of Świat a divadla, A2, Taneční zóna and Divadelní revue. This autumn, one of his most acclaimed publications, Saint Artaud, was published in Czech by Malvern.
